FSSB R3 with cougar stick and throttle for F-16 BMS falcon

Post by livrot »

For Hotas Cougar owners I have found a way to connect
1. throttle + old controller (stickbase without stick)
2. the fantastic FSSB R3
both to pc and make the old controller work flawless with missing stick.

finally I have time to update this post:

sombody might find this usefull:

how to use the "old" cougar stick on the FSSB R3 base together with the old cougar throttle/
what to do with FSSB R3 for TM Hotas cougar owners.
no guarantees !!! - for me it is working - read the manuals!
-----------------
steps to take (screw stick handle on cougar stick base first!!!):
1. unplug cougar from pc
2. unplug throttle from stick base
3. hold trigger while plugging cougar usb cable to running pc AND keep holding trigger!!! wait ten seconds and release trigger
4. unplug cougar from pc again for ten seconds
5. replug cougar to pc
6. go to All Programs/ Thrustmaster HOTAS cougar/ Hotas Cougar update and follow the steps to flash the latest firmware
7. wait a minute
8. deconnect cougar from pc
9. connect throttle to stick base

these steps were necessary to set the controller back to DEFAULT completely. now:

10. reconnect stick base to pc
11. configure all axes that you use in cougar control panel, incl. dead zones ... save setup (see screenshot example below)
12. open foxy
13. copy and paste: (remove rem before DISABLE statements (see below, 3x) if you don't connect rudders to cougar stick base)

USE HWSTARTUP (EMULATION_ON, AXIS_MODE_USER, CALIBRATION_AUTO)

rem DISABLE LBRK

rem DISABLE RBRK

rem DISABLE RDDR

BTN T1 /H DX19 rem CursorEnable
BTN T2 /H DX20 rem TransmitCom1
BTN T3 /H DX21 rem TransmitCom2
BTN T4 /H DX22 rem Comms_Switch_R
BTN T5 /H DX23 rem Comms_Switch_L
BTN T6 /H DX24 rem Uncage
BTN T7 /H DX25 rem SRM_mode
BTN T8 /H DX26 rem MRM_mode
BTN T9 /H DX27 rem SpdBrk_Out
BTN T10 /H DX28 rem SpdBrk_In

BTN TG1 ^
BTN TG2 ^
BTN S1 ^
BTN S2 ^
BTN S3 ^
BTN S4 ^
BTN H2U ^
BTN H2D ^
BTN H2L ^
BTN H2R ^
BTN H3U ^
BTN H3D ^
BTN H3L ^
BTN H3R ^
BTN H4U ^
BTN H4D ^
BTN H4L ^
BTN H4R ^

14. save as babawuota.tmc
15. select download babawuota.tmc to cougar - this might take some seconds - wait !!!
16. close foxy now
17. deconnect from pc and remove stick

now thanks to the USE HWSTARTUP statement you can plug the controller (no stick on it) with throttle to your or any other pc
and all the axis config plus selection of emulation mode plus auto calibration is all there in the controller base allready -
no need to select startup options in cougar control panel.

18. reconnect without stick and check throttle functions
19. check no buttons pressed (red) in viewer. all stick buttons yellow? done.

thanks to realsimulator for the outstanding force sensor FSSB R3!!!

Thanks for the sharing information.

About your R3 installation, look like if you will use the R3 in a wood cockpit, no? good luck ;-)

Only a suggest, you can get out the upper wood, just the one over the R3, and screw the R3 directly over the wood base. maybe a little bit dificult, just as you need drive the screws from down to up, but....

Cheers and congratullations.

thanks for developing TUSBA (throttle to usb adapter)
the perfect solution to make the old cougar throttle work with FSSBR3

definitely ordering one when available!

( from your description I hope to be able to program a button to make the throttle axis shut off / start the engine with the R2 version)

thanks again!

Thanks, Livrot. we have work hard just for you and people like.

Hope the TUSBA r2m will be the perfect tool for the hard-core sim pilot. really the TM grip is great, and with the TUSBA you will can use for years and years.

in my opinion, the best of the TUSBA is the 10hz filter and precision, this will let you in the future, when the position potenciometer will break, change it for a generic one, about one euro spare part, and get enought resolution to control the plane.

About the buttons, jeje With the 1.00 firmare ( intalled in factory) you have 16 programmable buttons to do what you want, for example just shut off / start

and with the next formware, will be the additional buttons, linked with the Idle/Mil and Aftb axles.

Thanks
